About Wilfred Madius Tangau
As a young student I was inspired to be a political leader by the socio-political and socio -economic situations of my community at that time. At the young age of 12 students from my village Lokos, used to walk on foot to our secondary school in Kiulu every two weeks or so. We depart at around 6am from my village and arrive at our school at 6 pm in the evening carrying food provisions, mainly rice.
Generally the people from my village are from poor families with no regular source of income as they survived on subsistence farming.
In Form 4 I was actively promoting education as a means of social mobility in my community. Inspired by fellow students from Gombak, Selangor, I initiated a student society called KEPALOS in my village. We organised my student programmes for academic excellence in my village.
Later in November 1999 I was elected as the Member of Parliament for Tuaran for the first time and I made education as the core of my parliamentary services. I was again elected as the Tuaran MP in the 2004 and 2013 General Elections, winning by a majority of over 5,000.
That means that I served the Malaysian Parliament as an elected members of the Dewan Rakyat for two terms that is the 10th (1999 to 2003) and the 11th (2004 to 2007)
Parliament. I did not contest in the 12th Malaysian parliament (2008 to 2013).
In terms of political leadership, I am a member of the Barisan nasional Supreme Council by virtue of being the Secretary General of one of the 13th Barisan Nasional component party, United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO).
I am also the current Divisional Chief of UPKO Tuaran Division where the Tuaran parliamentary constituency is located.
I am married to Datin Dr.Jaina Sintian, the current UPKO Women Movement Chief, and we have five children. We have four lovely daughters and one son who happens to be our last child.
My parents are still living in Kampung Lokos in Kiulu, Tuaran, my beloved birthplace, and are active farmers. We were a big family of 14 siblings.
